Residential Structural Engineering
Linchpin has provided engineering services on hundreds of homes in the region, from small remodels and additions to new 12,000-square-foot estates. We provide full structural design services for homeowners and sub-consult to architects.
Commercial Structural Engineering
Linchpin provides commercial structural engineering on a variety of projects from new ski lodges to tenant improvements within existing buildings. We are comfortable with the scale of commercial projects and materials such as heavy steel, masonry, reinforced concrete, and light-gage steel.
From pump stations, to river crossings and stairs, to offsite SCADA centers, we can assist public agencies with their structural needs on many of their unusual structures. We are familiar with the public procurement process and can prepare construction documents that level the playing field amongst bidding contractors.
Ski Area Structures
Linchpin has designed ski lodges, lift terminal structures, bridges, ski area signs, and equipment support structures. We have also designed modifications to lift towers for reuse and have the capability to perform difficult access structural evaluations of towers.
Piers, Docks, Bridges
Linchpin has designed numerous piers and docks on both Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake as well as pedestrian and vehicle bridges in the region. We understand the design criteria and methods of construction to design buildable and reliable docks, piers, and bridges. Linchpin has also consulted on numerous existing piers, docks and bridges, providing guidance on maintenance vs replacement.
Demolition and Shoring Design
Linchpin provides consultation for shoring and demolition. Demolition consulting services include analyzing the existing structure to determine sequencing of deconstruction and ability to support demolition or deconstruction equipment loading. Shoring consulting is provided for structures that are being retained or structures that need supplementing for construction loading.
Treehouse Engineering, Challenge Course Engineering, and Zipline Engineering
Linchpin provides structural engineering design, consultation, and investigation for tree and pole mounted structures including Treehouses, Challenge Courses, and Ziplines. We can perform analysis of trees, as well as design and specify structures that will have the most minimal impact on the tree.
Forensic Structural Engineering
Linchpin provides consulting services to a variety of agencies, law firms and insurance companies for the investigation of structural issues. We also provide expert testimony at depositions and trials.
Linchpin provides civil engineering for residential projects, including grading, site walls, and permanent erosion control designs.

Our goal in all restoration projects is to have minimal impact upon the structure’s historic fabric. We understand the structural behavior of historic buildings and archaic building materials. Linchpin has consulted on over 200 nationally registered historic structures.
Our team has performed hundreds of seismic evaluations, most using modern performance based methods. Past evaluations include the Grand Sierra Casino and the Wawona Hotel.
