Mr. Douglas Gadow, PE, SE, Senior Principal
Mr. Gadow is founder of Linchpin Structural Engineering, Inc. He is responsible for the structural engineering of new residential homes, remodels and repairs as well as commercial and public structures. He has provided engineering services to local fire and utility districts, the forest service, numerous ski-resorts, as well as countless individual homeowners, builders and developers. He has also provided forensic consulting services to insurance companies, public agencies and attorneys.
Mr. Gadow’s professional interests include zip-lines and treehouses, historic preservation, structural failures, unique and unusual structural issues, and seismic analysis and rehabilitation.
Mr. Gadow has worked on many projects in both the private and public sectors. Additionally, he has worked on numerous projects located in national and state parks. He has experience seeing projects of all sizes through from pre-design to design development including production of full construction drawings and specifications, and construction phase services.
Mr. Allen Forbes, PE, SE, Senior Principal
Mr. Forbes was founder of Forbes Engineering. Mr. Forbes was born and raised in Nevada. Since obtaining his master’s degree in 1982, he has been employed as a Structural Engineer in Reno, Nevada, and the last nineteen years as a principal of Forbes Engineering. He has engineered numerous large-scale buildings and has experience in all construction materials.His experience in steel structures includes several buildings on the University of Nevada, Reno campus including the Center for Molecular Medicine and the Joe Crowley Student Union, the Federal Courthouse in Reno, Nevada and the Legislative Building Expansion in Carson City, Nevada. He has designed several high-rise concrete towers including the 17-story addition to the original Peppermill Resort Spa hotel tower and Polo Towers in Las Vegas, which included three high-rise buildings. Experience with public works projects include numerous schools, fire stations, courthouses, financial institutions, health spas, justice and jail facilities, community centers, hospitals, as well as military facilities for the army, navy and air force. The Galena Fish Hatchery Seismic Upgrade, Camp We-Che-Me remodel and the St. Mary’s building in Virginia City are a couple of Historic renovations completed. The school projects include several school districts; Douglas, Lyon, Carson City, Churchill and Washoe counties. Large distribution center projects include the CDW Corporation, American AVK Company, several building in Reno and Las Vegas Logisticenters and Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company warehouses. His experience in timber framed structures includes the Reno Vista Center; the three-story Ironwood medical office building in Minden, Nevada, Northstar Zephyer Lodge, Heavenly Gondola Lodge, Miners Camp Restaurant in Park City, Utah, the Administrative and Sheriff’s Offices for Alpine County, California, and the Community Center, Golf Clubhouse and other buildings for both the Arrow Creek development and the Genoa Lakes Golf Club. His design of masonry structures includes the Cooper Court Dormitory, the Reynolds School of Journalism Building and the Living Learning Community at the University of Nevada, Reno, the Nye County Criminal Justice Facility and the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Church of Latter Day Saints, United Methodist Church, Capital Christian Center, and the Holy Cross Catholic Church are some of the religious facilities he has designed.
Mr. David Hodder, PE, SE, Senior Principal
Mr. Hodder joined Linchpin in the summer of 2014 with thirteen years of structural engineering experience. He was the project manager for the structural engineering of our local Cancer Center at the Truckee Hospital. He has a wealth of experience engineering schools, hospitals, and mid-sized commercial or institutional buildings. His experience includes peer review of structural design documents for code compliance and consulting services to insurance companies.
Mr. Hodder is highly experienced in 3D Building Information Modeling utilizing Revit Structure, demolition consulting, and provides as expert witness services for attorneys. Additionally, Mr. Hodder has a wide range of experience with various building materials including wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and light gauge metal.
Mr. Michael Nicklin, PE, Principal
Mr Nicklin joined Linchpin Structural Engineering immediately after it was founded. Earlier on roles included developing standards for construction documents for new residential and commercial projects using 3D Building Information modeling utilizing Revit.
Mr Nicklin has transitioned into a more managerial role in the Reno office.
Mr Nicklin along with the project engineers in the Reno office have a vast portfolio of experience in Mining Facilities, Hotel/Casino specialty projects, Commercial Buildings, concrete tilt-up construction, Prefabricated Building Foundation Design, and Tenant Improvements.
Such projects include: Staging/Light Support structure for the El Dorado Theatre, Fleischmann Building in Carson exterior improvements, Cashman Washbay canopy in Reno Nevada, Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino Addition.
Mr Nicklin’s engineering interests include implementing 3D modeling into the construction documents to streamline the design process and look for time, costs, and labor savings.
More importantly he enjoys team building with clients, architects, contractor, junior staff to ensure all phases of projects goals are maintained.
Ms. Erin Broomhall, PE, Associate Principal
Ms. Broomhall joined Linchpin Structural Engineering in the summer 2015 with thirteen years of local structural engineering experience. She has engineered hundreds of local high end residences as well as commercial and public buildings. Her resume also includes various projects from around the country.
She has a complete understanding of local environmental loading, neccesary for engineering in the region, and a complete understanding of the local building practices of the array of contractors with whom she works. She has solid relationships with most of the local architects, understanding their styles and needs.
Ms. Broomhall is highly experienced in 3D Building Information Modeling utilizing Revit Structure.
Mr. Jeremy Rogelstad, PE, Senior Engineer
Mr. Rogelstad joined Linchpin Structural Engineering in the summer of 2018 with fifteen years of structural engineering experience. He started his career in commercial building design taking projects from concept through construction. He has worked with architects, developers and owners to provide cost effective designs using all typical building materials.
He also has years of experience in the solar space. Mr. Rogelstad has directed the structural development of residential and commercial solar module mounting hardware including overseeing product testing, determining allowable design values, defining the design procedure, and overseeing the permitting of thousands of photovoltaic systems across the United States.
Ms. Lisa Hartley, Associate Engineer
Lisa specializes in custom residential design and residential remodels. She has also worked on various commercial and industrial designs, as well as treehouse engineering and civil site design. She has worked extensively on updating Revit drafting standards to increase project efficiency and optimize workflow. Lisa is also an active member in the local engineering community, and is the current Treasurer of the local branch of the ASCE Younger Members Forum.
Ms. Amy Macquarrie, Associate Engineer
Amy joined Linchpin Structural Engineering in February of 2018 with ten years of engineering experience. She was formally an engineer at Valley Joist specializing in open web steel joist engineering and construction. Prior to that she was with Nevada Department of Transportation as an Associate Engineer in Roadway Design and a Senior Hydraulic Engineer.
Amy is experienced engineering for commercial, industrial, retail and residential buildings, using concrete, masonry, wood, steel and light gauge metal. She enjoys concrete tilt-up projects, metal buildings, tenant improvements and remodels.
Mr. Brandon Brooks, Associate Engineer
Brandon enjoys managing a wide variety of unique projects including the Stampede Dam guardrail system, manufacturing efficiency optimization, commercial construction economization, prefabricated building modules, large-scale greenhouses, and virtual reality / panoramic 3D presentations. His advanced coursework in seismic analysis & timber design has been valuable when working on numerous seismic evaluations / retrofits & residential projects.

Mr. Tam Nguyen, Associate Engineer
Tam specializes in new residential homes and remodels and has experience utilizing a variety of construction materials. He came from a steel joist background and understands the construction industry and its demands. He is proficient in both AutoCad and Revit.
Mr. Jose Montenegro, Associate Engineer
Jose joined Linchpin Structural Engineering in the Spring of 2016. In the past few years, Jose has gained vast experience in designing homes around the Reno-Tahoe area for both new constructions and remodels/repairs. Within the last year, Jose had the opportunity to design several pedestrian trail bridges, some on U.S. Forest Service land. More recently, he has worked on commercial tenant improvements including façade remodels and signage. He has worked on a variety of other projects including driveway-decks, deck additions/remodels, equipment anchorage, and commercial-site retaining walls.
Jose’s interests center around bridges, but he is always willing to accept a challenge in structural design, for projects like truss modifications, custom A-frame residential designs, or seismic upgrades/retrofits of essential services buildings.
Jose drafts all his projects’ construction documents and is highly experienced in 3D Building Information Modeling using Revit Structure.
Mr. Sandy Cumming, Project Engineer
Sandy has provided load evaluations for various concrete systems and experienced in engineering wood structures.
