Major remodel for the reuse of the existing 81,000 sq ft Reno Gazette Journal Building as the new Public Service facility and police station for the City of Reno. The change of use of the building required structural upgrades to the lateral system for seismic concerns, considering the new use to meet requirements for an essential facility.
Project included:
- Removal of existing walls, columns, and reconfiguration of the interior wall partitions of the structure to accommodate the proposed design aspects of the safety center;
- Seismic retrofit of the existing structural members to remain including beams, framing, wall supports, foundations, and other pertinent items;
- Addition of a second story and stairwell within the large eastern wing of the building, previously single-story;
- Roof structural load was calculated for anticipated future solar array addition;
- Generator building was raised to be above the 500-year flood plain.
